National Geographic Visual Atlas of the World 2nd Edition Fully Revised and Updated National Geographic Books Reviews

  • Nicely done. My one complaint is that this version shrinks the maps and provides a number of photos of key landmarks. I'd rather have bigger maps and skip the photos altogether. I can find those all over. What I need is large, easily readable maps. The maps are well done, and I'd give it five stars if they filled each page.
  • Beautiful Visual Atlas.
Pro's I love how in the beginning of every section they provide succinct description of the region, including most common natural disasters and other details.
Con's some photos are too small, some are too large one half of the photo is on left page, the other half of the photo is on the right page, and the center of the photo is "split". To me it is visually unappealing.
  • Great Book, it is a huge Book, it won't fit on a standard shelf which has a height restriction.
First of all, it is a world atlas, it shows maps of the word which are mostly political maps.

These are some things which you won't find in an average atlas...
*Beautiful pictures, showing some UNESCO World Heritage Sites, and listing some more.
*It has a map of the Ocean floor, which shows height differences visually, but does not list the heights.
*It has a map of the Solar System, Milky Way and Local Supercluster.
    Pages 34-79 with Unique Maps
    **Paleogeography (Continent adrift in time)
**Structure of the Earth (Fault Lines, Earthquakes, Volcanoes)
**Landforms ( High Mountains, Tablelands, Hills, Flat Plains...)
**Land Cover (Savana, Cropland, Snow and Ice, Grassland...)
**Oceans (Ocean currents - direction and temperature)
    **Freshwater
**World Climate (Solar Energy, Temperature, Cloud Cover, Precipitation - Of months January and July)
    **Climate Zones
    **Climate Change
    **Population
    **Urbanization
    **Religions
    **Food and Agriculture (Not Specific)
**Human Influences (Villages, Croplands, Dense Settlement, Wild Lands...)
**Environmental Stresses (Ozone Layer Depletion, Deforestation, Air pollution...)
    **BioDiversity ( Tundra, Desert, Forest...)
    **Ecoregions
    **Protected Areas

Things I wish this Atlas had, but doesn't...
    1) Detailed maps on crops grown
    2) Detailed maps of elements, mineral locations in the world.
    3) Detailed Identification of cultures which have mixed and live together now in each country.
    4) Elevation markings on the Ocean Floor Map
  • I bought this book as a gift, & have not given it to the receiver. It is sealed well, so I didn't want to open it. It looks like it will is a beautiful book. However, the man I bought it for is elderly, & the book is very heavy. He will have to rest it on a table to read it. I do hope he likes it.
  • This World Atlas is absolutely and extraordinarily beautiful and graphic. It is truly a piece of art that can be displayed and enjoyed by all.
  • This is by far the BEST World Atlas currently available. Full of current information, beautifully done with wonderful graphics and images. So much more information than just a World Atlas. Be prepared this book is one heavy beast. Not your ordinary lap top book. You'll be reviewing it while it's resting on a table or foot rest not your lap! If you want the best there is at this time, this is it!
  • Got it for Fathers day and it is a beautiful book.
  • The most beautiful atlas I have seen. I bought it as a gift for my husband and he liked it a lot.
