Gold Pen Award-winning author ReShonda Tate Billingsley returns to the Houston congregation of her number-one Essence magazine best seller, Let the Church Say Amen, in this warm and powerful sequel.

When her husband hears God's call to become a preacher, Rachel Jackson Adams is distressed - she grew up a preacher's daughter, and knows how difficult life under the microscope can be for a reverend's family. But hot-headed Rachel has toned down her wild ways, and for the sake of her marriage and her two children, she is now the reluctant first lady of Zion Hill, unafraid to rock the boat with her unconventional ideas for revitalizing the church. When her son, Jordan, begins fighting at school, Rachel turns to the boy's father, Bobby - Rachel's first love from years ago. Married now himself, there should be nothing between them except their concern for Jordan - so why does seeing Bobby again feel so distractingly tempting?

With her brothers facing dramas of their own, and her father, Reverend Simon Jackson, recovering from illness, Rachel must listen carefully to discover what God truly wants for her - and to decide if Bobby is the lover of her dreams or the devil in disguise.

  • Author ReShonda Tate Billingsley gives the reader a daring look at the good, the bad, and the ugly of church folks in "Holy Rollers." The story centers around three main characters Nita, Coco, and Audra who come to realize that their previous plan to land rich husbands among Ball players isn't working. They tire of the Club scene and the younger competition. The ladies devise a scheme to snag husbands by pretending to be God fearing "Holy Rollers." Their scheme is quickly discovered and foiled by real "Holy Rollers" who resort to low-down, dirty, drastic, and sometimes comical measures to protect their pastor.

Nita has issues of trust which are exhibited in her relationships with men and result in animosity towards church folks. Her issues cause hilarious interactions with the "church mothers" and disastrous outcomes with men. Coca suffers physical abuse within her relationship, which results in the end to a vicious cycle, but not without horrible consequences. Audra struggles as a single mother to find the right man to replace her son's deadbeat father, and out of desperation she falls for a charming preacher who turns out to be "a wolf in sheep's clothing."

For Nita, her insecurities and actions ruin her chance at true happiness with a "man after God's own heart." She learns a hard lesson about trust and fidelity. Audra finally breaks free from desperation and realizes that she can wait on the Lord. And at the moment Coca gives up on her "finding" a man, she is "found", by the man of her dreams.

The reader applauds the faithfulness of a Godly woman in Audra's life. Admires and respects the devotion to God of a righteous man. Acknowledges the support of a loving man, and is totally floored by the foolishness of the overbearing, overprotected, church mothers. The "Holy Rollers" behavior is spiteful and inexcusable, but their misguided love for their pastor is undeniable.

Those who have spent any amount of time in an African American church with a pastor who is single can identify with the characters of this novel, including the overly zealous and spiteful "Holy Rollers." The author does a wonderful job of weaving together many storylines, illustrating biblical principles, portraying both negative behaviors, and positive outcomes. "Holy Rollers" is an enjoyable read with simple truths about relationships and clear differences between church attendance and spirituality. By the end, we find our main characters on their way to become genuine women of God.

  • You know it's hard out here for an athlete groupie. Those are the sentiments of Coco, Nita, and Audra. In their early thirties the young tight bodies just ain't what they used to be when it comes to attracting the young, athletic, and rich. Tired of the club scene and being picked over for Ms. Right but always selected as Ms. Right Now, these ladies look for divine intervention to "collar" the man who will fit their life plan.

In walk three spirited men who all appear to have God at the center of their lives. Nita sets her sights on a widower so handsome and charming it should be a sin. Audra falls fast and hard for an aspiring Pastor who says all the right things. Coco meets mature, old school Davis and wonders if he is the same type of man she's met in the past with a new face.

HOLY ROLLERS is an entertaining story that takes a new look at an old problem. The dialogue is funny, quick, and hilarious. Not to be confused with the preachy tell it like it is Christian fiction that many celebrate. You receive a quick, entertaining read that leaves you rooting for the good, bad, and the sinful. Dealing with some true to life issues and believable characters, this novel will leave your reading appetite satiated and your moral compass in check.

  • I usually love this author, but this book did not do it for me. The main characters were in their thirties, but they were so immature. The women in this book made one bad decision after another. If you are looking for a book with some romance, this is not the book for you. Two of the relationships were complete train wrecks. The one relationship that did make it, had no spark, and I would have actually preferred it if they had gone their separate ways. If you want to see grown women repeatedly make fools of themselves, be sure to pick this one up. Look elsewhere for something inspirational.
  • Great book! Great pace! Each character carried a bag of their experiences that lead them to their actions and plan. Instead of stepping back and taking care of “home” and the matters of their heart and mind, they chose to change up their targets. They soon found out even men of God fall short. And skeletons of the past can show up and deter you ir change the course of life.
  • This book is too much for me to handle in a good way. The drama keeps continuing and you feel like that one who wants all the details because you have to know what to pray for, right? Seriously, I love this book and about to indulge into the next one.
